Favorite part of working in the collection industry – The happy feeling that I get when a customer expresses their genuine gratitude towards me for helping them resolve a past due debt. Working with certain customers you build a relationship with them over time, and when I hear them say I helped them in a time they needed people the most is an amazing feeling. Never gets old!

Misconception that the general public has about our industry that bothers me most – People we deal with from time to time that think we don’t care or understand their current circumstances. I like to always remind people that, just because I am on my side of the phone doing my job, doesn’t mean I can’t just as easily be on their side of the phone. So, I make a real effort to treat them how I would like to be treated if my financial situation took a sudden hit.

Favorite part of working in the collection industry – Seeing teamwork in the office. I have been in management throughout most of my career, at one point I had over 40 employees working under me on my team. Now as an individual account specialist I really enjoy utilizing my management team and helping the newly hired account specialist grow within the company. When the office atmosphere is positive, and the whole team is clicking, it is very rewarding knowing I was a big part of creating that energy.

Misconception that the general public has about our industry that bothers me – Generally people think we do a mindless job, and it is not a respected profession by most. Working in this field for over 20 years I have meet some of the most talented and driven individuals. I do truly believe this industry is essential to Americas economy and anyone looking for a rewarding career you might want to give it a try. Served me well!

Favorite part of working in the collection industry – Knowing that hard work really can pay off in this industry! I started working in the collection industry when I was enrolled in college and noticed the company, I was working at was not focusing on the Spanish speaking customers enough. Soon after I helped build the first Spanish speaking department, and inevitably over saw the department for the next 5 years.

Misconception that the general public has about our industry that bothers me most – I still need to think about one, the perception seems to be changing lately and it's great!
